A Thousand Times Before & A Thousand Times More

Redefining the idea of portraiture. This portrait is of my father. His hand holding a bunch of bananas grown in our very yard, and adorned with his jewelry. These objects say more about him than a traditional portrait would. Objects hold our histories and provide so much context to who we are. From his watches to his Black Panther tattoo represented as a charm for a chain; all of these objects dig into deeper depths of his identity, values, and personality than a depiction of him himself would. The Dusk Garden depicts how the environments we live in shape our identities.
